Leap Second File Update

On 1 July 2015, a new leap second adjustment will be made to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). These are occasionally inserted into the atomic scale of reckoning time in order to bring it into line with solar time. A consequence of this change is that several Community Satellite Processing Package (CSPP) software packages require a Leap Second file update:

• - CSPP Sensor Data Record (SDR)
  - CSPP VIIRS Environmental Data Record (EDR)
  - CSPP VIIRS Imagery EDR (GTM)
  - CSPP-ACSPO (Advanced Clear-Sky Processor for Oceans)

We strongly recommend that you perform this update prior to the 1 July change. Please follow the instructions below to update each CSPP software package on the computers where they are installed. Linux terminal commands included in these instructions assume the bash shell is used.

1). CSPP SDR
cd $CSPP_SDR_HOME/common/cspp_cfg/cfg
mv IETTime.dat IETTime.dat.old
wget ftp://ftp.ssec.wisc.edu/pub/CSPP/leapsec/IETTime.dat

2). CSPP VIIRS EDR
cd $CSPP_EDR_HOME/common/cspp_cfg/cfg
mv IETTime.dat IETTime.dat.old
wget ftp://ftp.ssec.wisc.edu/pub/CSPP/leapsec/IETTime.dat

3). CSPP VIIRS Imagery EDR (GTM)
cd $CSPP_GTM_HOME/common/cspp_cfg/cfg
mv IETTime.dat IETTime.dat.old

4). CSPP-ACSPO (Advanced Clear-Sky Processor for Oceans)
cd $CSPP_ACSPO_HOME/ACSPO_V2-31_CSPP_20150107/run/static_anc/viirs
mv IETTime.dat IETTime.dat.old
wget ftp://ftp.ssec.wisc.edu/pub/CSPP/leapsec/IETTime.dat

In addition, the CSPP-Microwave Integrated Retrieval System (MIRS) software will require an update to at least one of the package binary executables. We are working on that update, and will distribute it as soon as it has been tested.
