SNPP Data outage - Issued September 25, 2024 17:08UTC
Update #1: Engineering was able to confirm that geolocation for the S-NPP spacecraft entered a degraded state starting with the observation time of 22:44:05z on September 24, 2024. Spacecraft recovery activities are tentatively planned to be executed on Friday, September 27, 2024. Data assessment by Cal/Val teams will follow to ensure S-NPP products are meeting mission specs.
High Rate Data (HRD) (direct broadcast) was also disabled at 15:16:44z on September 25, 2024. These will remain disabled until further notice.
The NOAA-21 and NOAA-20 satellites will continue to provide JPSS science data needs as the primary and secondary satellites, respectively.
Topic: NPP Data Outage
Date/Time Issued: September 25, 2024 0412Z
Product(s) or Data Impacted: NPP higher order products
Date/Time of Initial Impact: September 24, 2024 2244Z
Date/Time of expected end Time: To Be Determined (TBD)
Duration: TBD
Details: Starting with observation time of 22:44:05z on September 24, 2024, data processing for all NPP Higher products may not be available. Some data was unable to be processed and This may be related to alarms observed on the spacecraft. Engineering will investigate on the next business day. NOAA-20 and NOAA-21 products continue to be available for all JPPS product needs.

Re: SNPP data outage
Update #2: Operations was able to recover the S-NPP spacecraft to a valid geolocation state at 16:34 UTC on September 27, 2024. Cal/Val teams have confirmed that all S-NPP Science products are meeting mission specifications and ready for operational use.
Science data after the 16:34 UTC observation time on September 27, 2024 meets mission specifications. Operations did not disable High Rate Data (HRD) on September 25, 2024 as previously announced and therefore S-NPP HRD has been available for distribution. Direct Broadcast (DB) users can use the equivalent S-NPP science Community Satellite Processing Package (CSPP) LEO products for operations.
This concludes the S-NPP spacecraft anomaly
